Monday Meditation: Sewing Desires

Rebuilding and rebalancing life after loss can be challenging. Sometimes it is difficult to know where to begin. Action may be a first step, an the impulse to act (and act quickly) after loss is tempting. However, action can be fraught with anxiety.

Before proceeding to an action step, it is helpful to spend time contemplating what exactly it is that you want in this new life. Knowledge about what you desire after a large life change doesn’t come quickly or easily. It can take time to figure out exactly what you do desire after a momentous experience such as loss. Don’t rush your desires. Let them come to you. They will appear when you’ve had time to think, time to get clarity on life, and time to heal.

Knowing what you want next is important to the success of a healing, post-loss path. Without concrete goals, you may meander from one thing to the next without knowing why you’re moving in any direction. Once you’ve taken the time to process life and really think about what you want after loss, you can formulate a plan containing actionable steps that help you achieve your goal.

There is no rush in making up your mind. There is no need to rush to living your desires once you know what you want. A planted seed needs tending to, it needs proper cultivation and care. A planted seed will grow when it is ready and will flourish in the right conditions.

Things in post-loss life will unfold as they should. Be mindful about your goals and desires. Be intentional about how want to achieve them. Be thoughtful about how you cultivate them. Be responsible with them once they’ve been achieved. 

Plan some meditation time this week. Contemplate what you want our of life, then brainstorm how you can achieve it. When the conditions are right, take steps to grow those desires into your life.
