You were an angel in the shape of my mum
You got to see the person I have become
Spread your wings and I know
That when God took you back he said Hallelujah
You’re home-Ed Sheeran, “Supermarket Flowers”
Ed Sheeran wrote “Supermarket Flowers” following the death of his grandmother. The song, written in the first person, reflects the perspective of Sheeran’s mother. I’ve posted his live version of the song below.
Although our mother’s may not be living, they remain our mothers even in death. We can still celebrate their lives this Mother’s Day without them being physically present. Is it difficult? Of course. We would rather than be here. Celebrate the relationship you had with your mother as much as you can, and think of ways in which you might be grateful that your mother was your mother. Set a place for your mother at your table today, share thoughts (whether oral or written) with her about your feelings (good or bad), write her a card, or look through photo albums.
