Greetings from your new Avon Lady

Dear readers,

I have become an Avon Representative. Yes, that’s right: I am your new Avon Lady.

This video doesn’t exist

I joined Avon for a very specific purpose: to contribute to your development of a self-care program.

I had been looking into direct marketing for a few years, but the companies I found never grabbed me for one reason or another. I wasn’t interested in selling either just make-up or just jewelry because it would have been just for the money and that wasn’t my goal.

I stumbled upon the Avon website last week and realized this was the company I was looking for.

Avon offers beauty and bath products, clothing, kids stuff, jewelry, fragrances, home décor, and a wellness line.

What does this have to do with grief?

First, Avon’s products are perfect for grievers who are developing a self-care plan. The bath products alone can help grievers relax and recharge. A weekly bubble-bath can do wonders for a griever’s stress level.

Second, Avon’s products are affordable. Grievers may deal with some financial rebalancing after their loss and cut pampering products from their list of expenses. Avon sells items at reasonable prices and has several sales a year, which means that grievers can keep buying products that help them relax and find comfort.

Third, condolence gifts suck. Don’t get me wrong, I love flowers and plants. I appreciate all the people who took the time to send flowers to the funeral home for my mother’s wake and to the house to show their sympathy. Here’s the thing though: flowers and plants are work. In the middle of doing a thousand and one things for the funeral and then dealing with post-death stuff, having to clean up dropped flower pedals, change vase water, and water plants was too much. I wish someone sent me a gift basket of bubble bath instead. We donated all of the flowers from the funeral home because the house already looked like a funeral home…there was no place to put any more. Avon offers bath and body gifts sets that will be quite appreciated by grievers who are too distracted to run out and do errands. Gift sets also feel more personal than flowers. Grievers can think of the sender every time they use the products and remember that they are cared for. Avon offers women’s and men’s products, so Avon is not just something to send to female grievers. Men may need bath products more than women during their grief (their significant other most likely was the person who purchased all of their bath products).

Fourth, Avon partners with the American Cancer Society and Speak Out Against Domestic Violence. Many grievers are mourning the loss of loved ones taken by breast cancer, and acts of domestic violence. Being able to support causes close to their grief might help the healing process. Grief supporters can also send grievers small items of remembrance to honor the lost loved one and support groups seeking change at the same time.

Fifth, my mom used to buy Avon bath products when I was growing up. I remember using Skin So Soft from elementary school through college…and maybe until my parents moved out of Massachusetts. The company is a little nostalgic for me. My mother also loved fashion, jewelry, make-up, fragrance, and home décor. Every part of Avon’s brochure reminds me of my mom.

My plan for connecting Avon and this website is this: I will use this website to curate Avon products that grievers can use in their self-care plans and that grief supporters may want to send grievers as either condolence gifts or “just thinking of you” gifts. I will post a few times a month on a variety of items, including products that can be gathered into gift baskets (I can’t make and sell gift baskets on my own unfortunately).

For now, I have a special offer to share with grievers who are in need of a little pampering: a 7-piece Skin So Soft collection for $19.99 ($65 value). The set includes:

  • 2 Skin So Soft Original Shower Gels
  • Skin So Soft Original Body Oil
  • Skin So Soft Original Bath Oil Spray
  • Skin So Soft Original Body Lotion
  • Moisture Therapy Intensive Healing and Repair Hand Cream
  • Moisture Therapy Intensive Healing and Repair Body Wash

Buy it for yourself and enjoy a little relaxation. You deserve to have something that makes you feel refreshed and calm sometime during the day. Grief supporters: consider purchasing this set as a gift for the loved one in your life who needs a break from grief-related stress. If you are a caregiver, I especially encourage to treat yourself to this set.

I will concentrate any videos on beauty related products on my Avon-related Facebook page. The ANCarroll Facebook page will contain content solely related to rebalancing life during grief.

My online Avon shop is up and running (minus a photo) but take a look to see if there is anything there you need for your self-care plan. If you would like to send a gift to a griever get in touch with me or leave a comment below and I will get back to you with recommendations.
